It feels like we have only just begun this year yet later this month we will already begin the conversations with our grade eights about next year.

For most students, Huron Heights will be the secondary school they will attend next year. Other options available at other schools include the Integrated Arts Program, The International Baccalaureate Program, the Fast Forward Program (through our special education department) , French Immersion and Extended French. In late November, staff from some of secondary schools will be visiting our school to discuss some of the programs with students.

Eastwood Arts Program– A meeting will be held at Doon (in the library) to meet with interested grade eight students on Monday, November 16th during first Nutrition Break.

Cameron Heights IB Program – A meeting will be held will be at Doon (in the library) to meet with interested grade eight students on Wednesday, November 18th during first Nutrition Break.

In late November, December and/or January, parent/ student information nights will be held at the various secondary schools (dates will be posted when available) to allow parents and students to gather information about the respective programs.

Eastwood Arts applications are typically due the first week back after break in January and the other applications are not due until typically the second week of February when all students will also be selecting their courses.

At the end of November, grade eights will begin to receive transition information to take home and share with their parents. This information and any further updates will also be posted on Doon’s website.

Students are welcome to make an appointment with Ms. Lussier if they have any questions about this process. This can be done by speaking to their homeroom teacher or dropping by the Guidance Office during the beginning portion of nutrition breaks. Parents are also welcome to contact Ms. Lussier with any questions. Again, this is a process that we will begin talking about in late November, with the bulk of decisions being made in February.
